Add Years of Use to Your Glass Sink With Proper
Care
Congratulations on the purchase of your new glass vessel sink. Now that you have taken the bold
step of transforming your bathroom with a gorgeous glass sink, there are a few things you should know so that it
lasts for years to come.
All of the glass sinks that we feature in our site are durable in nature as they are
made with double-layered tempered glass that give that additional strength to the structure of your sink so that
it withstands years of heavy use. But you want to make sure that your investment pays for itself overtime,
offering the same gorgeous looks as when the first time you installed it.
First, experts agree that though glass is one of the best materials for repealing the buildup of
hard water minerals and even thwarts the growth of dangerous germs, a glass sink performs better when clean and
free of oils and detergents. And so, it is recommended that you wipe clean your glass sink after each use,
so that water does not form deposits when it dries, which later can become hard to remove.
By using a light water and soap solution you can give a thorough cleanup to your new vessel sink.
Experts recommend that you dilute soap in lukewarm water avoiding detergents with chlorine. And using
a non-abrasive sponge or clean cloth, wipe all of the inner surfaces of your glass sink. Once you are
done, run the water and rinse all of the surfaces thoroughly until there is no spa residue. Once finished, use
a dry clean cloth to wipe clean. This will prevent spotting to occur once the water dries on the surface of
the glass vessel sink.
Some glass sinks come textured and even have patterns that are part of the decor. To clean these
intricate surfaces, dust lightly and wipe the creases created by the designs so that no material builds up in
them. Use a toothpick to remove debris caused by casual use such as soap and other products. For
delicate areas such as those with bright colors and accentuated patterns, create a vinegar and water solution
and a swab to clean.
As with many glass home products and furniture, make sure to keep heavy and sharp
objects away from the surfaces of your new glass sink, as this may cause irreparable damage or scratches that may
affect the finish of your sink. Also avoid using metal sponges or scrubbing pads to clean your glass
vessel sink and avoid using detergents that contain sandy or abrasive chemicals.
Do not pour hot water into your glass sink as the sudden change in temperature can cause
it to crack. If small, invisible fissures form on the surface of your glass sink, these may expand
overtime, compromising completely the structure of your vessel sink.
